What is audioGnome?
audiognome is a revolutionary client that  allows you to connect to multiple opennap servers and other related servers. Unlike such programs as Napster or Morpheus, opennap servers are set up by music lovers like us.  audioGnome has all of the features of Napster with a lot more features and server options.

Where Do I Get audioGnome?

You can get it here @ http://www.audiognome.com/ Just click on the download area, and enjoy downloading multimedia today!

Getting Started in 3 easy Steps!

1. Connect to a server!  First you need to connect to a server, just highlight a server you would like to connect to and click 'Connect'  Note:  You should of already have a default user name and password and your own profile in the profiles screen.  If you want you could right click then click,  "edit server settings", then click "set user name" and set your own user name and password.

2. Search! Next, search for your song, type in your song name or artist in the search field. Note: You can type both in, Example:    Artist - songname ;  or you can exclude words for example,  if you are looking for an artist such as "cher", and lets say you dont want the word "ghost" to keep coming up in the results.  All you have to do is type in
"Cher -ghost" and all the songs with ghost wont show up.

3. Download!  Finally,  right click on the file you want, then press download.  You should see on your transfer screen the file getting the port and downloading.  It will be saved in your directory you specified the client to save.Note if it times out or you get a queued message you may want to choose another file.

Terms and Definitions

The # Column:Shows the Server Index number of the server you are connected to. This is referenced in the "Service Index" column in the "Search" screen.

Status Column: Shows your connection status to the server. Click on this tab to group all the servers you are connected to together.

Some meanings of the Status "errors:

"closed by error":Is a string which is an error message delivered by the winsock.  It could mean anything, about an error just occurring.

"the connection is reset by the remote":Is the actual error description delivered from the winsock by the operating system. In other words, the person or server  you are downloading from either closed your connection or got disconnected off the internet, or just logged off the server her or she was on.  There is many possibilties about the other user at the end.

Type:The name of the server.

Users Column: The number of Users on the server. This number only appears if you are connected.

Files Column:The number of files on the server.

Gbytes: Number of gigabytes of files on the server.

I.P Column: The I.P address of the server.

Port Column:The port address the server connects to your computer.

Server index: The server index, sorts out the servers using numbers, so it makes it easier for you to figure out what song is on what server.  For example, if you find a song and it says the server index is 24, then you would go to the connect tab and look what is server 24, and you would find out what server that song is from.

Type Column: This is the type of server the person is running.

User Id Column: This column shows the UserID you use when you connect to the server. By default it is the user name you set when you first installed audioGnome. To change this, RIGHT click on the server, and select " Set Custon User Name For Selected " Enter your new user name.  NOTE:  aG will register your new nickname with the default password, if you know your password already.  Enter your username then a "space" then your password.

Password Column:  Column that shows your password to the server.

Select All Button:  Pressing this button will select all of the servers listed. If you then press connect, audioGnome will attempt to connect to all of the servers at once. Pressing down the "Ctrl" key while selecting servers will also select multiple servers to Connect to/Change Id, etc.

Note: Status Tab and all other Tabs:  If you would want only the active servers listed first, you would just click on the tab that says "status".  The same concept goes for other tabs such as "friendly name", "users" and so on.

FAQ

Why does it say "Killed your ghost, please log in again"?

Solution: Because more than one server is connected to the same host server, example.  Opennap1.what.com, Opennap2.what.com, is both connected. so if you log onto 1 and then try logging onto 2, it would say this, because you have 2 usernames which is the same.  Try changing your username on one of them.

NOTE: I do not endorse you doing this, i just explained above why it says the error message "Nick Collision" or " Killed your ghost", and i also explained above how to fix this. Here are the reasons why i dont recommend you doing this procedure.

1.  It really puts unessassary burden on the servers!
2.  You can basically get the same results by just connecting to one server.

What i recommend you do is this.

1.  Click on the "Type" tab in the connect screen section
2.  All the different server types should be arranged
3.   Connect to ONE of each server type, just scroll down the list of servers, and connect to ONE opennap server, and ONE mynapster server, and so on.

This not only helps the burden of the servers, it also helps you get connected to more servers, in each server type.

Question:  Why does it say "Connection forcefully rejected"?

Answer: The Server  may have forcefully rejected your connection, just try again, or register another name with the server.

Question:  What does "Show Login Message" do?

Answer:  It shows the MOTD  (message of the day) of the server you are connected to.

Question:  Why does it say "The attempt to connect timed out"?

Answer:  The server is'nt up or your connection could'nt contact the server, please try again.
If it keeps doing that, just delete that server.

Question:  Why does it say "Invalid Password" ?

Answer:  Becuase someone has already choose that particular name.
To register a new name! right click on a server,  click " Set Custon User Name For Selected "  .  Enter ONLY your username you want registered. click ok, and your new user name will be registered using your DEFAULT password.
